The Climate
The climate is without doubt the determining
factor for the appearance and formation of the Costa del Sol
as a first class international tourist area. The more than 300 days of
sun per year, and the rest up to 365 which are also pleasant, plus the
good average annual temperature, are the best identity cards to define
the mildness of the coastal Málaga climate, protected as it is from
the cold meseta winds by the mountain chain near the coast, with mild winters,
pleasant springs and autumns, and summers (with some exceptions) which
are generally fresh for the sea breeze. But also, the average temperature
of the sea oscillates between 15 or 16ºC in the winter months, and
around 20ºC during the summer. It is not risky therefore to state
that the Costa del Sol has the best climate in Europe with the singularity
of adding that the visitor can get a tan in the winter and be skiing in
Sierra Nevada, only two hours away, in Granada which is the most southern
winter ski resort in the European continent.
