The present-day province of Málaga is the result of a long history of rights
and wrongs between man and nature. It is the result of a long process which today offers
the visitor the delight of variety and, at the same time, the widespread gaiety of
Málaga. The variety of people, lands and scenery joined together in the roots of a rich
history, made between the shelter of the highland and the caress of the sea. In every
valley, every highland, every high plateau, the variety is regional, is a remnant of
history moulded into a landscape. A mysterious landscape, almost bewitched, in the hilly
Málaga of Ronda; cereal, fertile plain, olive grove and domain in the Antequera plain.
Waters below the Guadalhorce, the valley is a pathway, orchard and river between the
highland and hills; a labyrinth of hillocks. Olives, almonds and vines stretch over
Axarquía to the east of Guadalmedina. And to the west of the Guadalhorce is the colourful
and busy Costa del Sol in which the mountains and sea melt together. |
