CULTURAL HERITAGE

Antequera’s heritage is not only historical or natural, but also cultural. The city acquires literary importance in three determined monuments, in the 16th and 17th century ("golden centuries"), during the Romanticism (19th century) and at present.

The most important of these periods is no doubt the one corresponding to the "golden centuries". Once the Royal Collegiate of Santa María was built, a grammar cathedral imparted by prominent private tutors was created, developing a very esteemed group of poets, headed by Pedro Espinosa.
