ANCESTRAL HOMES

The nobility which settled during the renaissance and baroque periods in Antequera built many palaces, of which magnificent testimonies remains. One of the most outstanding is the Palacio de Nájera (present municipal museum), to which there is the addition of the ones situated between Cantareros, Tercia, Laguna and Lucena streets, all in the baroque style. There are the especially esteemed Casa del Marqués de la Peña (Castilian urban palace with towers on the corners, combined with Mudejar elements), the house of the Marquise of Escalonias (with an interesting mannerist front), the house of the Colarte (county council museum with baroque front), house of the Baron of Sabasona (one of the most original examples of houses with armoured front, characteristic of the city), the house of the Marquis of Villadarías (with an interesting three bodied front in red limestone from the Torcal) and the house of the count of Pinofiel (one of the best conserved buildings from the Antequera civil baroque). The house of the Serrailler, although built in 1929, presents a neo-baroque style which is very estimable, being a work by Aníbal González.
