ALOZAINA

Visiting the streets of Alozaina and contemplating its typical corners of an Andalusian town is a real pleasure. A watchtower of the Málaga depression, from the lookout of the Arabic castle the view is lost in the distance towards the sea. Protected by the sierras of Tolox and Sierra Prieta from the cold winds.

Alhosaina, in Arabic, small fort or good and healthy place, has a mild climate both in winter and summer. Ideal for enjoying your holidays in the many houses for rent. A stay which is made even more pleasant by the hospitable and kind character of the inhabitants of the region’s towns.

As well as enjoying a gastronomy such as the "soup with sauce over the top", giblets", "broth", "cabbage", "cold soup or sauce", "boiled soup", or "date bread", and "honey cakes". Not to mention its olives and virgin olive from the COPUSAN co-operative.

They celebrate their patron saint’s festivities on the 25th and 26th of July, Santiago and Santa Ana. The 12th of September is the olive fair. Alozaina is the "first town of Spain" where the harvesting of the green olive "El Verdeo" started.

The first Sunday in May is the meeting day of the pilgrimage of the Santa Cruz to Jorox, idyllic valley of plots and orange trees, where prehistoric archaeological sites have been discovered. The Easter has always been famous, fourteen steps run the streets to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. On Good Friday they do the live stage representation of "The Passion". Another day when the town is decorated is the Corpus Christi.

Regarding the popular handicraft, there is the forging of railings, the chair workshop and the workshop for embroidering with gold.
