Trekking in Benalmádena |
PORT OF THE OVEJAS-CALAMORRO
The starting point is situated next to the Public School Miguel Hernández in Arroyo de la Miel. At about one kilometre away there is a track to the left of Cerro del Viento which will take us to an area where we can camp (an area which actually in repopulation) called the arbolitos which means little trees, and also to a cave which is situated in the carramolillos and has some cave paintings. From the area of the arbolitos there is another track, which takes us to the top of the Calamorro, the emblematic mountain of the municipality with 772 metres in height and from where one can enjoy some splendid views. Returning to route 1, and following the course of the Muertos brook, which is actually asphalted at 2 kilometres from the beginning, we follow the new course of the brook which delimits the districts of Benalmádena and Torremolinos, and this takes us the Ovejas Port at height 600. Once there, we decide whether to take the track which will take us to the district of Torremolinos, or continue until the next track crossing where we can have various options: we can go back up to the top of the Calamorro, re-routing at the district of Alhaurin de la Torre bordering the dry quarry in this district, take route 2, or continue the mountain chain which will take us to route 3 and also, following the range until Fuente la Laguela or Lobo at the peak of Castillejo at 967 metres, the maximum altitude of the Benalmádena Sierra, where the television booster is situated. The distance of this course until the Calamorro hills is about 4 kilometres; it takes about two hours. |
